Many plants disperse their seeds by having animals eat them. These plants usually have edible fruits that attract animals with their bright colors and tasty flesh. Their seeds have hard and resistant seed coats so they can pass through the animal's digestive system unharmed.
Dillenia indica (Elephant apple), Dilleniaceae
Dillenia trees have very attractive large leathery leaves. They have huge solitary flowers that last for only a day. The fruit of the Dillenia tree has a sticky green mass of seeds, and tastes like an unripe apple. They are used to make drinks and jellies. They are popular with elephants, hence their common name: Elephant apple.
