Comparing insects to orchids
Orchids are highly advanced and very specialized monocots . To attract their pollinators, some orchids have evolved to imitate the smell and appearance of female insects. These orchids are pollinated by male insects that are tricked into trying to mate with the flowers (pseudocopulation). At this exhibit, you can see orchids that look like different insects, such as a hairy fly, a tiny gnat, and a tropical bee.
