Pineapple

Ananas comosus, Bromeliaceae

The pineapple is a herbaceous perennial that is native to Brazil and Paraguay. It is a compound fruit that develops from the fusing of many small fruits. Pineapples have perfect flowers that can self-fertilize. Pineapples can also be produced without pollination and without seed formation by parthenocarpy (virgin fruit).
